Editions: A fiction and arts publishing imprint

As a film company, storytelling has always been at the heart of our business so after a decade of publishing the annual arts journal, Somesuch Stories, launching our own imprint was a natural evolution.

PITKISSER

Exploring Los Angeles’ ‘girl mosh’ subculture and celebrating Mollie Mills’ short film 'PITKISSER'

'PITKISSER' is a two-channel film installation that follows Syerrah and Kris, two girls in search of redemption from violence as they find solace and euphoria in the hot lick of the pit.

The accompanying book was created as a photographic testament to the genre-hybrid visual arts project. It features dozens of photographs alongside illustrations, text interventions, and an essay by Mollie.

"The real stars of Hollywood, and Los Angeles broader aren’t in the hills. They’re creating expansive, community-driven counter-culture. People always say LA is superficial; I might argue it’s survivalist. Which is inherently punk." – Mollie for The Face

Flor de Jamaica

Jazmin Garcia’s debut photobook is an ode to hope as told through a transcendental study of women and flowers.

Filmmaker and photographer Jazmin Garcia presents Flor de Jamaica.

Reflecting twinned motifs of flowers and women, beauty and justice – the limited edition title features an intimate montage of striking, tender images as introduced by letters between Garcia and designer, Symrin Chawla.

“My lens is always seeking, perhaps being summoned by flowers, because they affirm intuitive guidance towards soul repair. Flowers are my ofrendas to this thought.”—Jazmin Garcia

Throughout Flor de Jamaica’s imagery, two female characters recur. Depicting brown women as protagonists in resistance to beauty standards is crucial to Garcia. Thus the images in this title invite us into narratives about empowered women as they lead their own lives.

The book's key influences include Casa de Lava by revered Portuguese auteur Pedro Costa. And Flor de Jamaica with its scripted pages is similarly an open-ended time capsule of Garcia as a filmmaker.

Fiction:

Use the Words You Have

‘A moving meditation on the capacity of language and love to shape us… saturated in sun and salt water, drenched in heat and longing.’ —Jessica Andrews, author of Milk Teeth

A literary romance like no other – Kimberly Campanello’s debut novel unfurls over a hot Breton summer as American student K embarks on a love affair with a local. Barred from using English by their French programme, the Americans’ identities flicker and fade. Yet for K this dissolution opens space for profound transformation.

Heady and poetic, erotic and intelligent, this is a coming-of-age tale that reveals how coming-of-age – at its pinnacle – means coming alive. Alive to touch and taste, pleasure and ecstasy.

To the sea, the sun and eternity.

Secret Pleasures

Previously available solely with Somesuch Stories 7, because we loved this zine so much, we printed an additional run.

Secret Pleasures' narrative was co-written by artist Jenkin van Zyl and author Brittany Newell, during the development of van Zyl’s film, Surrender – which was presented to feverish acclaim at London’s Edel Assanti gallery in 2023.

The zine’s story is inspired by 1930s American dance marathons and European depictions of Danse Macabres.

van Zyl then created illustrations to echo the graphic textures of the printed materials he discovered while conducting research at the Bishopsgate Institute into 20th-century sexual countercultures and secretive meet-ups.
