Director and writer Raine Allen-Miller affirmed her reputation as one of the UK’s brightest talents with her debut feature ‘Rye Lane’ alongside spots for HBO (‘Must Watch’), RSPCA (‘Respect’) and Make My Money Matter (‘Oblivia Colemine’).
Premiering at Sundance and receiving BAFTA, BIFA and London Critics’ Circle Award nominations, ‘Rye Lane’ demonstrates Raine’s narrative wit and renowned use of bold colour. The South London-based romantic comedy follows Dom (David Jonsson) and Yas (Vivian Oparah) over the course of one eventful day, as they connect over heartbreak and subsequently find faith in romance again.
Rain’s commercial work has been recognised by Cannes Lions, British Arrows, D&AD and 1.4. She was named a Star of Tomorrow by Screen Daily in 2021 and has also featured in Campaign’s coveted Top 10 Directors of the Year list.
Born in Manchester and raised in South London, Raine first built her career in advertising, working as a creative at Saatchi & Saatchi, Mother and Anomaly. Her directing work broke through with the promo for ‘Storm’ by Salute, followed by the BFI London Film Festival-premiering short ‘Jerk’.
Raine is currently in post-production on her next feature, ‘The Roots Manoeuvre’, a London-based heist comedy.
